Selecting a Chair
When selecting a chair, it is important to consider factors such as size, adjustment capabilities, and overall comfort. The following guidelines will assist in providing features to consider when selecting a chair. The chairs available for telework are not the exact chairs we have at the lab. It will be helpful for you to know the name of your chair to help you in choosing the right telework chair. You can refer to this link to help you identify your chair model.
Height
Feature – Allows chair to adjust height up and down.
Position - Should adjust to allow hips to be slightly higher than the knees and feet firmly supported on the floor or footrest.
Note: For work surfaces that are not adjustable, you may need to adjust the height of the chair in order for your arms to be positioned comfortably which may require use of a footrest.
Backrest
Features – Height, angle, contour, and thickness
Position – Provides adequate support to the back and promote natural sitting posture.
Seat Depth
Features - Allows for the seat of the chair to move forward and back in order to accommodate an individual’s thigh length.
Position - Optimal seat depth should allow 1-2 inches behind the back of the knees and the front of the seat of the chair.
Note: Some chairs may not have the capability to adjust seat depth. If that is the case, look for a chair with a deep seat that will allow for 1-2 inches behind the back of the knees.
Arm Support
Features: Ability of the armrest to adjust up and down, in and out, angled, and forward and back.
Position – Armrests should provide support to arms without elevation of the shoulders.
Note: Some chairs may have limited adjustment capabilities. Look for armrests that can adjust in height and are roughly the same width as your shoulders.

This chair will suit a lot of different sitting styles and many body sizes (small and medium). This is good choice for petite customers. Confirm seat height and depth will meet the customers needs. If you use a Steelcase Leap, Soma A/B or Herman Miller Aeron A/B sized chair at the lab this chair might work well for you.

Height adjustable armrests. Armrests adjust 3 inches up/down (from 13-16") Note: armrest width is NOT adjustable so they may be too wide for small body sizes.
